Ph.D. Student

Yi-Lin Tsai

Ph.D. Student in Civil and Environmental Engineering, admitted Winter 2018
I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University. I have 6 years of research, teaching, and volunteer experiences in AI, machine learning, deep learning, data science, disaster resilience, and sustainability. My research is focusing on the intersection of AI and disaster resilience. I developed and applied machine learning and deep learning models to predict compound disaster occurrences and study how to more timely, efficiently, and safely evacuate the elderly, people with disabilities, and the general public during compound disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic. I have won several competitions, hackathon awards, fellowships, and grants. In terms of teaching, I was selected to receive the Stanford Centennial Teaching Assistant Award. In my free time, I love playing the violin, working out, and doing volunteer work.
